Speech delivered at Road Safety Seminar for NATA Cross River State Chapter – HOW DO VEHICLE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS REMAIN RELEVANT IN THIS AGE OF DIGITAL IT; ALL?

HOW DO VEHICLE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS REMAIN RELEVANT IN THIS AGE OF DIGITAL IT; ALL?

Our presence here today marks deep expedition into the heartland of the South-South Region of Nigeria; coming down here to preach the gospel of Safety on the Roads as it has to do with numerous members of our great family; NATA.

And I must say I am delighted, humbled as well as honoured to stand before you to welcome you all to this historic event.

Personally, this is my fourth trip to Calabar this year; and I must state that I’ve found each of my trips to this city a remarkable one; thanks to the beautiful, onerous job our Distinguished Guest of Honour, Prof. Senator Ben Ayade is doing here in Cross River State.

Before I go further, I will like to commend our Distinguished Guest of Honour, Prof. Senator Ben Ayade for the support his administration is giving to Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Cross River State Chapter.

However, the association still needs further laudable support from the government; in terms of creation of Mechanics Villages to take off the numerous auto technicians off the roads and streets sides.

We should be reminded that indiscriminate disposal of used engine oil and other vehicle parts is harmful to human health, therefore, creation of Mechanics Villages for NATA across the state; as it has been done in a number of states in Nigeria; will be a welcome development.

Having said that, there is need to re-orientate the Nigerian Auto Technicians to be relevant in the areas of repairs/maintenance of modern-day vehicles being produced competitively these days without the manufacturers’ recourse to train the numerous auto technicians; helping them to maintain their precious vehicles; keeping the vehicles road worthy; though some of the country’s roads are not vehicle worthy.

President of Automobiles And Road Safety Initiative, Samuel Oloyede Oriowo addressing Participants at the Cross River State Event

We are here to encourage NATA members in Cross River State to embrace best practices while being entrusted with owners’ precious automobiles from which you members eke out your daily bread.

We have noted severally in all our programmes that; on daily basis now, the features; mechanical as well as electrical components and compositions of vehicles are changing; they are being improved upon competitively; making us to be concerned as to how do vehicle repair and maintenance technicians remain relevant in this age of digital it; all?

The Nigerian auto technicians need constant trainings and re-trainings; workshops as well as seminars in order to be properly fit to be able to work effectively on the modern vehicles being imported into the country these days.

While trusting, however, the ability of our invited Guest Speakers to adequately enrich our brains abundantly with the various topics they will treat, I want to quickly enjoin us all, to listen attentively to be able to benefit maximally from this programme.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Automobiles And Road Safety Initiative as well as the entire Positive Crew of NATA News, I thank our Distinguished Guest of Honour, Prof. Senator Ben Ayade for finding time out of his tight schedule to add colour to this event.

I also wish to thank all our notable dignitaries as well as NATA officials and members that sacrificed their precious times to be part of this historical outing.

To our steadfast Corporate Sponsors, the Board of Directors and Management of 11 Plc (formerly Mobil Oil Nigeria), we continue to appreciate all your corporate support and encouragement to see that all NATA members across the country are re-orientated to be relevant in the areas of effective repair/maintenance of vehicles in the country.

Your leadership characteristic in the lubricant sub-sector of the Nigerian Automotive Industry is highly superior.

And that’s the more reason all stakeholders are convinced that: Mobil Leads! … Others follow!!

God bless you all!
